From vision to action: our take on sustainability
Since the Green Deal set an ambitious target for the EU to become a climate-neutral economy by 2050, sustainability has become a key consideration in modern business decisions. From re-shaping routine operations to driving long-term strategies, this future-proof outlook isn’t just driven by regulatory requirements. End users are prioritizing suppliers that use traceable, eco-friendly materials, and companies that prioritize sustainable practices see better employee satisfaction and retention. Optimizing resource use goes a long way from a business perspective, too – it helps to reduce production costs and minimize environmental impact.
For us at UMP, prioritizing sustainable practices is more than a choice – it’s a commitment to building a greener future and preserving natural diversity for generations to come. Working toward this goal, we have implemented numerous adjustments throughout our supply and production chains. This transformation has taught us an important lesson: greener practices do not require compromises in quality or production timelines. On the contrary, our experience proved that sustainability and efficiency go together, revealing true potential for a win-win outcome.
🔹Green energy
We use 100% green electricity. Our own solar plant produces up to 10% of our annual electricity needs, and the remaining electricity is purchased as green energy sourced entirely from renewable resources.
🔹Eco-friendly options
In the production process, we use paints and varnishes with a lower carbon footprint.
🔹Sustainable packaging alternatives
We currently use a variety of packaging materials, including wooden pallets, cardboard, and plastic. We continuously look for new ways to enhance our packaging and reduce our reliance on unsustainable materials, particularly plastic.
🔹Circular waste management
We collect our production waste and transform sawdust into biofuel briquettes for sale and in-house use. Other production and technological waste is carefully collected, sorted, and forwarded for further recycling.
🔹Sustainable infrastructure
We have installed two modern bio-boiler stations with advanced filters, significantly reducing particle emissions. Additionally, all our manufacturing facilities and warehouses are equipped with energy-saving LED lights.
🔹Advanced production equipment
We have invested in new painting technology, which helped us reduce production waste by approximately 90%.
🔹Our impact
In 2024 alone, choosing green energy allowed us to emit 689 tons of CO₂. In simpler terms, that is equivalent to 212 flights around the world, or a CO₂ intake of 23,765 trees.
As the impact – and the importance – of sustainability continues to grow, we look forward to unlocking more innovative, eco-conscious solutions in every aspect of our business. After all, by actively managing our impact, we’re not just protecting nature – we’re helping to ensure a thriving environment for generations to come.
